JAMIL KHAN'S BRUTAL CRUELTY IN COLNE: KITTENS SUFFER FATAL ATTACKS

Jamil James Khan, born on September 1, 1993, and residing at 9 Mason Street, Colne BB8 9BU, has been convicted of heinous acts of animal cruelty that resulted in the tragic death of one of his pet kittens. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of violence inflicted upon two innocent cats, Obi and Amidala, over a period spanning from April 1 to July 4, 2022.

According to court records, Khan admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to the kittens. The case drew attention to his disturbing behavior, which included multiple attacks on the animals. The first incident involved Obi, whom Khan took to Stanley House vets claiming that the kitten had been injured by a dog. An examination by veterinary professionals uncovered severe injuries, including fractures to Obi’s jaw and skull, indicating a brutal assault rather than an accidental injury.

Just two days later, on July 3, Khan contacted the same veterinary clinic, reporting that Obi was breathing shallowly but still alive. He arrived at the clinic within minutes, only to find that Obi had died. During this visit, Khan claimed that the kitten’s injuries resulted from a road traffic accident. However, the veterinarian challenged his account, noting that the injuries did not match those typically caused by a vehicle collision. When questioned, Khan repeatedly responded, “I just can’t tell you,” raising suspicions about the true cause of Obi’s injuries.

Following these events, authorities intervened. The police arrested Khan on the same day and conducted an interview, during which he refused to answer questions, responding only with “no comment.” A search of his property uncovered another kitten, Amidala, who was subsequently handed over to the RSPCA. The animal was taken to Greater Manchester Animal Hospital, where it was found to have at least one fractured rib, further evidence of physical abuse.

Post-mortem examinations conducted at the University of Liverpool revealed Obi had sustained multiple fractures across his body and had blood in his stomach, indicating he was alive and suffering when subjected to the violence. Prosecutor Joanne Daniels, representing the RSPCA, stated that both animals had been subjected to blunt force trauma on multiple occasions. She emphasized that Obi’s injuries were consistent with high-energy blunt force trauma and that he was alive at the time of the attack.

During the court hearing, defense counsel Rhianydd Clement acknowledged that Khan had been under significant stress at the time of the incidents. She explained that Khan panicked during the vet’s questioning and, realizing the severity of his actions, chose not to disclose the truth. Clement also highlighted that Khan had taken full responsibility for his actions and expressed deep remorse for his conduct.

It was also revealed that Khan had been pursuing a psychology degree at Burnley College but had abandoned his studies after one year due to the ongoing legal case. The court’s sentencing included a sentence of 18 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, along with 35 days of rehabilitation activities. Additionally, Khan was ordered to pay a fine of £300, payable at £30 weekly. Most notably, he was disqualified from owning, caring for, or keeping any animals for a period of 10 years, reflecting the seriousness of his offenses.

Judge Recorder David Temkin condemned Khan’s actions, stating, “Over the course of three months, you mistreated both of those cats. The vet pressed you on how Obi died, and the police were called. You were arrested on July 3 and interviewed but provided no comment. The police found a second kitten, which was examined and found to have at least one fractured rib. These kittens were subjected to blunt force trauma, and on both occasions, they suffered pain from your abuse. Your behavior was clearly violent and must have been ongoing. You continued until one of the animals lost its life.”
