SEX OFFENDER JAMIE COLLINS SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR RAPE AND DOMESTIC ABUSE
A convicted sex offender, Jamie Collins, aged 32, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of crimes including rape and domestic abuse. The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Collins subjected a woman to a series of violent sexual assaults across Stewarton and Glasgow between October 2006 and March 2018.
The victim, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, described the abuse saying: “I don’t want to be alive,” highlighting the severe impact of the offenses.
The judge, Lord Tyre, emphasized the gravity of rape, stating: “The crime of rape is one of the most serious offences in our system of law,” and added that prison was the only appropriate sentence.
Collins’s history includes a 2007 conviction for underage sex with a girl aged 13, though he avoided imprisonment then.
Recently, Collins was convicted last month on charges of rape and assault following a trial in Glasgow, where a jury heard details of the victim’s distress, including texts where she expressed feelings of worthlessness and a desire to end her life.
Police investigations began in March 2018 after a report of long-term abuse, and Detective Constable Colin Jones remarked on the importance of reporting domestic abuse.
The sentence reflects the court’s recognition of the profound harm caused by Collins’s actions, and authorities have reiterated their commitment to uphold justice for victims of such serious offenses.
