JAMIE COLLINS FROM STEWARTON SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS FOR VIOLENT AND SEXUAL OFFENCES IN GLASGOW
Jamie Collins, aged 32 and originally from Ayrshire, has been handed down a seven-year prison sentence at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday, 16 January, 2020. The conviction follows a lengthy investigation into serious sexual and violent crimes committed against his former partner. The case came to light after police in Scotland launched an inquiry into Collins' actions in March 2018, prompted by a report detailing years of abuse inflicted upon the woman.Detective Constable Colin Jones, who is based at Kilmarnock Police Office, provided insight into the case, stating, “Jamie Collins was a violent man who subjected his former partner to serious and violent abuse throughout their relationship. It is a tragic case that highlights the severity of domestic violence and the importance of reporting such crimes.”
He further emphasized the significance of the victim’s bravery in coming forward, saying, “Thankfully, she found the courage to come forward to police and report what was happening to her. As a result of her testimony and the evidence gathered, we were able to secure this conviction.”
Police Scotland’s commitment to addressing domestic abuse was also underscored by Detective Constable Jones. “His conviction and sentencing for domestic abuse-related offences sends a clear message that we will always investigate reports of domestic abuse, whether recent or historical,” he stated. “We encourage anyone who is experiencing or has experienced domestic abuse to contact police. It is never too late to seek help or report such incidents.”
Members of the public are advised that police can be reached by calling 101, or 999 in emergencies, to report any concerns related to domestic violence or abuse. The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat domestic violence and protect victims across Scotland.
