NORTHWICH MAN SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON BEDROOM VICTIM
A RAPIST has been sentenced after committing a sustained sexual attack on his victim inside her own bedroom.James Webb, who resides on Cromwell Road in Northwich, was 18 years old at the time of the offense, which occurred on July 25, 2017—two and a half years prior to sentencing.
Webb was finally sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on a Friday, with the court hearing how his victim has been left with increased anxiety and symptoms similar to post-traumatic stress disorder.
According to the report, Webb, who was visiting a friend’s home after a breakup, entered the victim's bedroom and launched a sexual assault.
This incident has deeply affected the victim, leaving her anxious, with difficulties sleeping, nightmares, depression, and self-harm.
Although she has been prescribed medication and is under psychiatric care, she has not received a formal diagnosis of PTSD.
Mark Le Brocq, Webb's solicitor, highlighted that Webb has no prior criminal history and that the delay in bringing the case to court was due to police investigations, during which Webb was released on bail with an electronic curfew.
Webb pleaded not guilty to rape but was convicted by a jury following a trial late last year.
Judge Thomas Teague acknowledged Webb’s youth and the delay caused by his choice to plead not guilty, stating that character references portray him positively.
The court sentenced Webb to seven years in prison, with the understanding that he will serve half of this sentence and be subject to a restraining order preventing contact with the victim.
He will also need to adhere to measures applicable to registered sex offenders.
