JAMES HURRELL FROM PERTH SENTENCED FOR REVENGE PORN AND HARASSMENT INCIDENTS
James Hurrell, a resident of Station Road, Dunning, has been formally placed on the sex offenders register following a series of disturbing incidents involving his former partner in the Perth area.The case was heard at Perth Sheriff Court, where Hurrell appeared to face sentencing for actions that have caused significant distress and concern.
According to court records, Hurrell was involved in a troubling episode in November, during which he sent explicit photographs of his ex-girlfriend to her new partner’s sister.
This act of revenge porn was part of a broader pattern of aggressive behavior that culminated in Hurrell’s appearance before the court.
The court also heard that approximately three months prior to this incident, Hurrell had arrived uninvited at his ex-partner’s residence in Perth and was found banging on her windows, an act that was deemed threatening and invasive.
The relationship between Hurrell and the woman had recently ended, primarily due to Hurrell’s inappropriate and disruptive conduct.
The court was informed that Hurrell had previously admitted to disclosing intimate images of the woman without her consent, an act that caused another woman to view a sexual image unlawfully.
Additionally, he was found guilty of acting in a threatening or abusive manner outside his ex’s home on August 27, further escalating the seriousness of his behavior.
During the proceedings, Hurrell’s solicitor, Angela McLardy, acknowledged her client’s misconduct, attributing it to immaturity and emotional turmoil.
She stated, “This resulted from his own stupidity – some immaturity as well.
It was borne out of his frustration and disappointment.
Mr Hurrell found himself overwhelmed with emotion and unable and unaware of how to deal with this.
He does not make excuses for his behaviour, he really does regret his actions.” In response, Sheriff Clair McLachlan sentenced Hurrell to a series of community-based measures.
She ordered him to be placed under supervision for one year and to register as a sex offender for the same period.
Additionally, Hurrell was subjected to an 11-week curfew from 8 pm to 7 am.
The sheriff also imposed a three-year non-harassment order to prevent any contact with the victim and mandated that Hurrell complete 200 hours of unpaid community service.
Sheriff McLachlan emphasized the severity of the offences, stating, “The offences… are extremely unpleasant and I’m sure have left (the complainer) with significant distress and possibly psychological issues.
The custody threshold is crossed, there’s no question about that.
Rehabilitation is a primary consideration.
Against that background, I am persuaded to impose a community-based disposal.”
