ELDER SEX OFFENDER ADMITS TO MULTIPLE ASSAULTS IN BUCKIE PUB
A man described as a “lonely old man” sexually assaulted two women whom he approached in a Buckie pub.The women initially thought James Farquhar, aged 69 and of Crown Terrace, Portgordon, was just a lonely pensioner, but it was later revealed that he was a convicted sex offender.
He appeared via video link from Inverness Prison to admit to both sex offenses committed in a bar and aBuckie house on November 4, 2021.
The court heard that Farquhar had interactions with the women starting on November 1, where he was considered “a lonely old man”.
He was invited to meet again in the same pub, but once there, he began to grope both women, touching their thighs and attempting to put his hand inside one woman's jacket.
Despite their discomfort, they laughed it off and socialized with him at a house in Buckie.
His indecent behaviour escalated as he drank more heavily, attempting to kiss one woman, hold her hand, and even placing his mouth and tongue on her face.
He also repeatedly touched the thigh of the other victim.
The women reported the incidents to police, leading to Farquhar's arrest.
His defence lawyer asked for an immediate deal, but the sheriff wanted to know more about his background and deferred sentencing until May 31, with Farquhar remanded in custody.
The court documents and witness statements underscore his inappropriate and repeated sexual misconduct.
