Update 01/06/2026: A convicted sex offender has committed not to resettle in Buckie again.Steven Wishart, aged 44, was compelled to leave his residence in Buckie following violent demonstrations at the end of March.
Wishart is subject to a community-based order, which was handed down after he was added to the sex offenders’ register earlier this year.
In March, his home address was publicly disclosed, leading to daily protests in Buckie.
Locals protested and clashed with police urging for his removal from the town.
The situation escalated on March 31, when police had to escort Wishart away from his property on Well Road to de-escalate the unrest.
Elgin Sheriff Court conducted a hearing concerning a request to alter Wishart’s community payback order, overseen by Sheriff David Harvie.
The court agreed to modify a condition of the order to prohibit Wishart from living at his Wells Road residence.
Wishart was absent from the hearing, but his solicitor, Stephen Carty, confirmed on his client’s behalf that he wished to move to a new property in Aberdeenshire.
Wishart had been found with more than 500 indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of children and over 60 videos when his home was raided in 2020.
Of those, 45 images and 32 videos were ‘Category A’ – the most serious.
In category B, there were 54 inaccessible images and 11 inaccessible videos.
In Category C, there were 425 images and 23 videos.
When his case called in February this year, Sheriff Gary Aitken placed him under supervision for three years and ordered him to carry out the Moving Forward 2 Change programme.
He was placed on the sex offenders’ register for three years.
