DUNCAN MOIR FROM BUCKIE CAUGHT IN SCANDAL INVOLVING PREDATORY ONLINE BEHAVIOR IN SCOTLAND

A 72-year-old man from Buckie, Duncan Moir, has been caught in a disturbing online incident involving inappropriate communication with someone he believed to be a minor. The case unfolded after Moir engaged in a series of conversations with a decoy operated by an adult from a paedophile hunter group, who was posing as a 14-year-old girl. The incident took place on December 17, 2023, when Moir initiated contact and began addressing the decoy with affectionate and suggestive terms such as "baby," "gorgeous," and "my dear girl." During their exchanges, he asked personal questions about her relationships, indicating a level of familiarity that raised serious concerns.

As the conversation progressed, it became increasingly sexual in nature. Moir made explicit comments, stating that the girl made him 'horny,' and inquired about her private parts. He also discussed sexual acts he wished to perform on her, all the while warning her to keep their interactions secret and not tell anyone about their discussions. These exchanges clearly indicated Moir’s intent and the inappropriate nature of his communication.

Following the decoy’s alert, authorities in Scotland were notified, and the incident was escalated. The decoy shared the details with other groups, which ultimately led to a live online confrontation with Moir. During this online stream, law enforcement officials identified his residence in Buckie, bringing the case to a head. Moir was confronted and subsequently admitted to engaging in sexual communication with what he believed was a 14-year-old girl, spanning from December 17, 2023, until March 16 of the previous year.

He appeared before Inverness Sheriff Court to face the charges. The court proceedings were temporarily adjourned to allow for a comprehensive background check and an assessment for the 'Moving Forward to Change' sex offender rehabilitation program. Moir has been placed on the Sex Offender Register as part of the ongoing legal process. His bail has been extended, but the sheriff issued a stern warning that all sentencing options remain on the table, reflecting the seriousness of the allegations and the potential consequences he faces.
