A young mother has been granted a five-year restraining order by the Crown Court following a catalogue of violence, harassment and coercive behaviour by her former partner.
The order, made at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on 22 February 2022, prohibits James Briggs, born 9 February 2002, from contacting the victim except through solicitors for the purposes of child contact.
The protection order was imposed following his conviction for assault by beating, criminal damage and breach of a suspended sentence at Greater Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 21 January 2022.
Under the terms of the order, Briggs is forbidden from engaging in any conduct that amounts to harassment or causes fear of violence.
The restraining order remains in force for five years.
Any breach carries serious consequences, including imprisonment of up to five years on indictment.
Despite the court’s intervention, further alleged offending was later recorded by Greater Manchester Police.
