DOMESTIC ABUSER JAILED FOR ATTACKING ANOTHER GIRLFRIEND
Jake Clark, 25, admitted to assaulting and damaging property at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 30 December.Having been remanded in custody for breaching bail by entering Chippenham illegally the previous day, Clark faced charges for his actions.
Court documents reveal he was involved in a troubled relationship with his victim, lasting only a month, with violence erupting after a peaceful two-week period.
Originally described as “lovely,” Clark’s demeanour changed during their brief romance.
On 16 January, after a night of drinking with friends, he verbally abused his partner and then caused damage by smashing two interior doors.
He further escalated his violence by physically assaulting her biting her cheek, shaking her, and strangling her in an attack lasting about half a minute.
The victim, suffering from a circulatory disorder, felt her life was in danger during the attack.
Following the incident, Clark appeared to mend his behaviour temporarily, but just a week later, he accused her of sharing sexual videos and assaulted her again while intoxicated on cocaine.
Police photographic evidence of her injuries and property damage was shown during proceedings.
The attacks took place while Clark was under a suspended sentence for previous violent offences against another partner.
Defence lawyer Moses Uzodima-Tawo stated Clark has since improved his life, securing employment and entering a stable relationship.
Nonetheless, courts sentenced Clark to 22 weeks’ imprisonment for each assault, to run concurrently, citing the seriousness of his conduct.
A restraining order was also issued, restricting Clark from contacting his victim for one year, and he was fined and ordered to pay court costs and fines totalling over £600.
Magistrate Martin Clarke condemned Clark’s repeated violence, stressing that his victim’s sanctuary her home must be a secure environment, and emphasized that drugs or alcohol do not justify such behaviour.
