CHIPPENHAM MAN WHO ASSAULTED PARTNER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS JAILED
A man from Chippenham has been sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to regularly assaulting his partner during an eight-month period.Gregory Ford, 46, formerly of James Close, admitted to three charges of assault causing actual bodily harm along with criminal damage.
The case was heard at Swindon Crown Court on March 23, leading to his conviction and imprisonment.
The victim contacted police in December last year, feeling brave enough to report ongoing abuse from her partner at their home, which had reached a point where she needed to leave for safety.
In April of last year, Ford had assaulted his partner multiple times by hitting her on the face, head, and ribs, injuries which included bruises, two black eyes, and damaged ribs.
In November, his violence escalated as he kicked her in the back, tore her coat by grabbing it, and then pulled her by the hair before throwing her to the floor.
He continued to kick her in the head several times.
On December 14, Ford slapped his partner, causing her to fall, and then threw out her belongings, prompting her to seek refuge.
A few days later, she reported the assaults to police.
Local investigator Chris Brinicombe explained that Ford initially denied the assaults during questioning but was shown photographs taken by the victim that documented her injuries.
The evidence led Ford to admit guilt.
He highlighted the serious injuries sustained by Ford’s partner and condemned the behavior as entirely unacceptable.
Brinicombe commended the victim for capturing her injuries in photographs, which provided strong evidence and prevented Ford from avoiding punishment.
Though aware of the long-term psychological effects, the investigator expressed respect for the victim’s courage in reporting the abuse.
He assured the public that justice is a priority and hopes the prison sentence will serve as reassurance that such crimes are taken seriously by authorities.
