JAIL FOR DOMESTIC ABUSER JACOB CHAMBERS AFTER BANBURY ATTACK
A man who threatened to ‘shank’ his girlfriend after repeatedly hitting her has been sentenced to over two years in prison.Jacob Chambers, aged 32, had prior convictions for abusing five different partners before he attacked the woman during a drunken incident in the early hours of New Year’s Day 2021 at a flat in Banbury, which they had been lent.
The assault, which was partly recorded on her mobile phone after she managed to turn on the device, was triggered when Chambers was confronted about messages he sent to other women.
During the attack, he pulled a knife from his waistband—referred to as his ‘shank’ on the recording—but injured himself with the blade.
He was heard threatening her, saying he would kill her and 'f*** her up.' The woman escaped from the flat, pursued by her boyfriend who threatened to slash her tires.
Police arrived as Chambers ran away through nearby gardens but eventually apprehended him.
In a victim personal statement read out in Oxford Crown Court, his former partner described living in ‘darkness’ due to his actions and said she felt unsafe ‘around the clock’.
The court was also told that days after he was charged with the assault, he violated a non-molestation order by contacting her via Instagram and later waited outside a store she was shopping at in Bournemouth with a friend.
Chambers had amassed over 30 previous convictions, including for assault, robbery, and aggravated burglary.
Sentencing him to 29 months, Judge Maria Lamb urged Chambers to use the time to reflect and to emerge with a changed outlook, emphasizing the importance of not repeating such behaviour towards partners or others.
She expressed hope he would do so.
Defense lawyer Richard Davies mentioned that Chambers had offered a sincere apology and had made efforts to reduce his alcohol and drug consumption.
Since his last release from prison, he had secured employment and accommodation in the West Midlands.
Chambers, from Anderson Road, Birmingham, had previously admitted to causing actual bodily harm to his ex-partner and violating a court order preventing contact with her.
A restraining order remains in place, banning him from contacting his victim indefinitely.
