JACK LISTER SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON IN NORWICH FOR FRAUD AND SEXUAL OFFENCES
A 21-year-old man, Jack Lister of Landseer Drive in Downham Market, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison, with an additional four years on extended licence, following a series of fraud and sexual offences.Lister appeared in Norwich Crown Court on March 3, where he pleaded guilty to charges including fraud, making and possessing indecent images, and blackmail.
This followed his earlier conviction by a jury in January for rape and sexual assault.
The charges stem from multiple incidents between March and November 2020, during which Lister created fake accounts on various online dating apps.
Over this period, he contacted six women, some of whom agreed to meet him.
Lister manipulated these women by convincing them to send him money on numerous occasions by fabricating reasons for needing funds.
He also fostered personal relationships, coercing victims into sending intimate images or videos, which he then used to threaten and extort money from them.
On December 18, 2020, officers received a report alleging that Lister had raped a 20-year-old woman in Thetford Forest after meeting her via an online dating app.
Following an extensive investigation, police located another victim, a 19-year-old woman, who revealed that she too had been raped by Lister in Thetford Forest in August 2020.
During the investigation, police search of Lister’s mobile phone uncovered a number of indecent images and extreme pornography.
He was arrested on August 4, 2021, and was subsequently charged with rape, fraud, sexual assault, making indecent images of children, and possession of extreme pornography.
On March 3, 2022, Lister was sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison, plus four more years on extended licence.
Detective Constable James Smith, who led the investigation, stated: “Lister’s actions will have a lasting impact on the victims, who have shown tremendous bravery in coming forward and giving evidence in court.
I would like to thank them for their courage and strength in supporting this prosecution and I hope today’s sentence will offer some closure to all of those effected by his actions.” Deputy Inspector Richard Weller added: “I hope this case demonstrates that Norfolk Police will do whatever we can to bring offenders who victimise women in this way to justice.
I wish to pay tribute to the team of detectives who did an outstanding job in successfully building this case for the victims.”
