BURNLEY: MAN JAILED FOR EIGHT YEARS FOLLOWING RAPE
A man responsible for raping a woman in Burnley has received an eight-year custodial sentence.Ibrahim Jamal Sadiq, 27 years old and residing on South Street in Haslingden, carried out the assault in February 2018.
During his arrest and subsequent questioning, Sadiq falsely insisted that the sexual encounter had been consensual.
After a trial held at Burnley Crown Court in September, he was convicted of rape.
He was also mandated to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Detective Vicky Heys from East CID described Sadiq as a manipulative and unrepentant individual who lied throughout the legal process, forcing his victim to relive her trauma during court proceedings.
She commented, “Sadiq is a manipulative and remorseless person who repeatedly lied during the case and compelled his victim to re-experience her ordeal by taking the case to trial, which required her to give evidence in court.” The police commended the victim for her courage in reporting the crime and standing up to her attacker, hoping that her case would inspire others to come forward.
They also expressed gratitude to colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service for their efforts in securing the conviction.
