YORKSHIRE PENSIONER JAILED AFTER STABBING AND KICKING PARTNER IN 'FEROCIOUS' ATTACK
A pensioner from Yorkshire was sentenced to prison after attacking his partner with stabbing and kicking, an incident described by police as a "brutal" assault. At approximately 8:38 pm on February 2, 2025, Ian Rothery, residing in South Hiendley, contacted emergency services and admitted to killing his girlfriend, as revealed in court proceedings.
Initially, Rothery called back and told responders to "forget about it," but shortly after, he phoned again, confessing that he had murdered her by stabbing her.
Emergency services and paramedics responded to the scene on High Street, South Hiendley.
The 67-year-old woman victim was located at her neighbour’s residence and was transported to hospital.
Medical staff found she had multiple stab wounds to her collar, neck, and shoulder, along with injuries to her face and hands.
Investigations uncovered that the assault began inside the property before the victim fled to the front yard.
The court heard that Rothery further attacked her there, kicking her while she was on the ground.
The woman suffered a collapsed lung resulting from the assault, and she continues to endure health problems, including respiratory difficulties.
During court statements, she described her life before the incident as healthy and carefree, expressing how profoundly her life has changed after the attack.
She conveyed her fears and ongoing pain, and her hope for recovery with support from her family.
She emphasised the importance of justice, stating that another chance might not be available.
On August 14, at Leeds Crown Court, Rothery was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent and received a sentence of six years and eight months in prison.
