IAN ROBINSON FROM CHELMSFORD AND CREWE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AFTER DRIVING TO BRADFORD
In a disturbing case that highlights the ongoing threat posed by online predators, Ian Robinson, a 57-year-old man with connections to both Chelmsford and Crewe, has been sentenced to over five years in prison for a series of serious child sex offences. The case unfolded after Robinson traveled nearly 80 miles from his home to Bradford with the apparent intent of meeting a 14-year-old girl for sexual activity, a journey that was ultimately thwarted by police intervention.
Robinson had been grooming his young victim through online chatrooms and messaging applications, establishing a disturbing relationship before making the trip to Bradford.
His plan was to engage in sexual acts with the girl, but his intentions were cut short when law enforcement officers arrested him during his visit.
During the arrest, police discovered a bottle of lubrication and a blanket in his vehicle, items that underscored the sinister nature of his intentions.
The Bradford Crown Court was informed that Robinson was detained in February, just two weeks prior to his scheduled court appearance for previous child sex offences.
His criminal history and ongoing predatory behavior came to light after police investigations revealed that he had previously attempted to encourage a girl he believed to be 15 years old to engage in sexual activities, even sending explicit videos of himself in December 2016.
In reality, he was communicating with another individual, a 54-year-old man from Essex, who was under investigation by Surrey Police.
When officers arrested Robinson at his home in Crewe on April 4 of the previous year, they also became aware of his online contact with the Essex man.
Weeks later, on May 18, police raided Robinson’s residence and seized his mobile phone.
Analysis of his device uncovered indecent images of children and sexual messages exchanged with a 15-year-old girl, further evidence of his predatory behavior.
Robinson was scheduled to be sentenced at Chester Crown Court in February of this year, but his arrest in Bradford prevented the proceedings.
Following a thorough trial, he was found guilty of nine separate charges, including attempting to incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, making indecent photographs of children, engaging in sexual communication with a minor, and attempting to cause a girl to view sexual images.
Judge Dixon delivered a stern judgment, describing Robinson as a dangerous individual who had been actively seeking out young girls online.
The judge criticized Robinson’s attempts to manipulate the court, noting that he had lied, blamed alcohol, and misled the proceedings.
He emphasized that Robinson’s genuine paedophilic interests posed a significant risk to children and that his behavior demonstrated a clear pattern of predatory intent.
In addition to his prison sentence of five years and four months, Robinson was subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.
He was also ordered to forfeit all devices used in his communication with children, aiming to prevent further offending and protect potential victims in the future.
