YORKSHIRE MAN ARRESTED IN ESSEX POLICE CHILD SEX STING
A Yorkshire man, Nurettin Onay, 63, of Micklegate in North Yorkshire, was arrested as a suspected paedophile after responding to an Essex Police child sex sting.He believed he was contacting an escort service advertising underage girls, and he asked about the availability of 14-year-olds.
He was recorded saying he wanted to help and save the children, stating he thought they were being exploited and he wanted to obtain their address to help them.
Mr Onay claimed he was only trying to report the illegal activity to police and not actually engaging in illegal acts.
He told jurors at Basildon Crown Court that he was shocked when told the girls were 14 and that he only wanted to help and save them, not abuse them.
The police had set up the sting operation to catch people attempting to procure sex with minors.
