YORK DAD RUINED DAUGHTER'S WEDDING AND HIS MARRIAGE
A FATHER who ruined his daughter’s wedding and put his long-time wife through “months of hell” will spend Christmas behind bars. When his wife decided to leave heavy drinker Ian Pinder, 57, he humiliated her by throwing her clothes and other belongings out of the window and held her hand so tightly she believes he broke her little finger, said Alison Whiteley, prosecuting.
Then he “relentlessly” stalked her and harassed his daughter and brother for months.
He continued to contact them and go to her place of work, despite being repeatedly arrested and put on bail with conditions to leave them alone and the Family Court making him subject to a non-molestation order aimed at protecting her, said the prosecutor.
He is now starting a 12-month prison sentence, and his wife is expecting their divorce to be finalised in the New Year.
They had been married for 28 years.
Pinder’s family were in court to see him jailed and to hear him banned from contacting any of them or go near their homes or his wife’s place of work for five years under a restraining order.
All three had told York magistrates they didn’t want to have anything more to do with him.
Pinder’s daughter told the court in a personal statement: “I feel robbed of the happiest time of my life.
I don’t want a relationship with him.
I just want peace for myself and my family.
I am fearful of what he will do next – he is unpredictable.” His wife said: “It is a continuous battle with Ian.
Once something gets sorted, something else happens.
He keeps saying he has done nothing wrong but I keep getting him arrested.
He will not take responsibility for his actions and continues to behave in a way which causes me stress.
After being together for so long, I still cannot get my head round the way things have ended.
I just feel exhausted by it all.” Pinder, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stalking his wife from July 24 to November 21, harassing his daughter from July 24 to September 23, harassing his brother from July 24 to August 13, assaulting his wife on July 26 and two charges of breaching the non-molestation order in November and September.
Ms Whiteley said Pinder’s drinking put his wife through “months of hell leading up to the wedding of their daughter” and led to him losing jobs.
During the wedding, he got very drunk and caused a “huge scene” throwing tables over.
“As a result of this at the wedding, she (the wife) decided on a separation,” said Ms Whiteley.
Pinder then threw things at her and left her stranded at the wedding venue.
After another family member took her home, he threw her clothes out of the window and injured her finger.
A neighbour heard her screaming and called the police.
She went to stay with her brother.
Pinder sent her 300 plus voice messages, completely filling her phone memory.
Over the months that followed, he pestered her and the other family members with messages.
He caused her problems at her place of work.
For Pinder, Shawn Cooper said: “These have been desperate acts by a desperate man trying to save his marriage and his family, and obviously full of alcohol”.
He now accepted his marriage was over.
He had recently had a heavy fall that left him with a severe head injury and side effects.
He was unemployed.
He had behavioural and alcohol problems that would not be addressed in prison.
