SPEKE PAEDOPHILE IAN KAUFMAN FACES JUSTICE OVER CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES AND GROOMING AT LIVERPOOL CROWN COURT
In April 2021, Ian Kaufman, a 48-year-old man from Speke, found himself at the center of a disturbing criminal investigation involving child exploitation and grooming. The case unfolded at Liverpool Crown Court, revealing a series of heinous acts committed by Kaufman, who was accused of engaging in online grooming, possessing indecent images of children, and attempting to exploit a young girl through social media platforms.According to court proceedings, Kaufman had been actively involved in grooming a 16-year-old girl from Scotland by pretending to be a 17-year-old boy on Snapchat. He used this false identity to establish an online relationship, during which he sent her explicit images he had sourced from the internet. Court documents detailed that Kaufman had also used software to record videos and save explicit images sent by the girl, including a video of her using a sex toy and fondling her breasts. These videos were captured using an application called Mobizen, which allows users to save videos from Snapchat even after they are deleted from the platform.
Prosecutor Ken Grant explained that police raided Kaufman’s home after receiving information about the uploading of an indecent image of a child via Kik Messenger. During the search, officers discovered Kaufman’s concealed mobile phone and a collection of other illicit images, including some depicting children as young as two years old and explicit cartoons involving child abuse and bestiality. The police also found an extreme pornography image involving a donkey or a young horse.
In interviews with law enforcement, Kaufman initially denied uploading any indecent images but admitted to communicating with the Scottish girl on Snapchat. He claimed he was unaware that such communication was illegal. However, he did admit to telling her he was 17 and to sending her images of a male genitalia sourced from the internet. The girl had also sent him a video of herself engaging in sexual activity, which Kaufman recorded using Mobizen. He further revealed that he had sent her money on two occasions and a necklace, claiming his motives were driven by a desire to help her financially.
Further investigation uncovered that Kaufman possessed a range of indecent images categorized as A, B, and C, along with an image of extreme pornography. He was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of indecent images, attempting to take indecent photographs of a child, and making indecent images of a child. The court heard that Kaufman had kept ten videos of the girl, some lasting up to eight minutes, raising concerns about whether she was aware that her videos were being saved.
Judge David Swinnerton, presiding over the case, sentenced Kaufman to a series of penalties. The judge noted that Kaufman had sent the girl £50, a necklace, and photographs of a boy he pretended was himself. Kaufman claimed he had not requested the videos but admitted to using screen capturing software to save them. The judge emphasized that, regardless of whether he asked for the videos, the girl sent them because of Kaufman’s deceit and grooming behavior. The court found that Kaufman kept the videos for his sexual gratification, highlighting the severity of his actions.
In a separate incident in March 2021, Kaufman was escorted to court by police officers due to concerns for his safety. The court was informed that he had experienced unspecified problems, which necessitated police protection. Kaufman, who had been dismissed from Middlefield Community Primary School in Speke, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including attempting to take and possessing child sex abuse images, as well as owning an extreme pornographic image involving a donkey or young horse. The prosecution explained that the Crown Prosecution Service was not prepared to proceed with the case at that time, requesting an adjournment.
Judge Swinnerton remarked on the complexity of the case, noting the limited information available about Kaufman’s relationship with the Scottish girl. He expressed a desire to see more evidence of their interactions, including Snapchat messages, to better understand the extent of any grooming or manipulation. The judge acknowledged the girl’s reluctance to cooperate openly, likely due to fear of her parents discovering her online activities, which suggested her vulnerability.
Defense attorney Jason Smith requested that the court consider the girl’s detailed account to assess the full scope of the relationship and potential grooming. He also clarified that Kaufman had primarily used Snapchat to communicate with her, not Kik. The court scheduled the next hearing for April 27, with bail conditions maintained, citing Kaufman’s cooperation and the police’s assessment of his mental health. The defense highlighted that Kaufman had recently attempted suicide and was under community supervision, emphasizing his vulnerability and the importance of continued support.
Judge Swinnerton, considering Kaufman’s safety and mental health, decided to re-bail him under the same conditions as before. Kaufman, who has no prior convictions, remains under strict supervision, with the court emphasizing the importance of monitoring his activities and ensuring he does not have unsupervised contact with minors. The case continues to draw attention to the serious issues of online grooming, child exploitation, and the need for vigilant law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals from predators like Kaufman.
