SPEKE EX-FIREFIGHTER KEITH WHITGREAVE SPYING ON TEENAGE GIRLS IN SCOTLAND GETS NO JAIL TIME
In a case that has shocked the community of Speke and beyond, Keith Whitgreave, a 44-year-old former firefighter, was found guilty of serious voyeurism charges after secretly recording teenage girls in their private bathroom spaces.The incident, which spanned over an 18-month period, involved the use of covert video cameras placed within the victims' homes, capturing their most private moments without their knowledge or consent.
Whitgreave's criminal activities came to light in July when police arrested him on suspicion of voyeurism.
During the investigation, authorities discovered that he had taken advantage of a bail period to travel to Scotland, where he reportedly attempted to take his own life twice.
According to the prosecution, Rob Jones, Whitgreave spent an entire night on a mountain in Scotland, suffering from hypothermia, and later tried to end his life by gassing himself in his car.
He was subsequently hospitalized and later released.
Meanwhile, police recovered recording equipment from the victims' residence in Speke, which contained numerous videos filed under the victims' names.
The evidence revealed that Whitgreave had been recording these videos over a period of 18 months, a fact that horrified the court.
When questioned, Whitgreave initially denied any wrongdoing but eventually admitted to voyeurism, pleading guilty to the charges.
During the sentencing hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, Patrick McLoughlin, representing Whitgreave, stated that he had since left the fire service and was now employed as a driver for Eddie Stobart.
McLoughlin emphasized the gravity of the situation, remarking, “When you have an individual such as this who has fallen from grace hitting the ground is that much harder.” Judge Alan Conrad, QC, did not hold back in condemning Whitgreave’s actions.
He described the defendant as “despicable” and emphasized the breach of trust involved.
The judge stated, “They were entitled to feel safe in their own home and assume their privacy was not violated by you.
For your own perverted gratification, you spied on them in their most intimate moments.
Worse than that, you recorded them and kept the product.
This was voyeurism of the worst kind.” In light of the severity of the offense, Judge Conrad imposed a three-year supervision order on Whitgreave.
He also ordered him to attend a sex offenders' treatment program and to register as a sex offender for the next five years, underscoring the court’s concern for public safety and the need for rehabilitation.
