SEX OFFENDER IN COURT AFTER FAILING TO NOTIFY POLICE OF NEW BOSTON ADDRESS
A convicted sex offender wound up in court after failing to let police know he had moved home.Hussein Muhammed was jailed for 15 months in June 2023 after being convicted of outraging public decency.
A requirement of his release was that he complied with stipulations in the sex offenders’ register, including updating police of any change of address within three days.
However, he failed to do so after moving into new accommodation on February 16 of this year - telling officers he simply forgot.
“Police essentially received an email from the Boston Borough Council rough sleeping department to say he had moved address,” prosecutor Nick Kirkland told Boston Magistrates’ Court.
“They heard from that agency but not the defendant.” A probation report described 38-year-old Muhammed - who moved to the UK from Sudan 13 years ago and settled in Boston 18 months ago - as a ‘vulnerable individual’ with a low ‘level of understanding’ who ‘makes attempts on his life on a daily basis’.
“He describes himself as alcohol dependant.
He drinks five strong cans of alcohol per day,” the report continued.
“He has no family.
He is significantly isolated and there are mental health concerns.” In defence, Mike Alexander said: “This is a serious matter and not something the court will just wash away.
He explanation that ‘I forgot’ is not good good enough.
But I do believe he understands now this is more serious than he first realised.” Hussein, of Stafford Street, Boston pleaded guilty to failing to comply with requirement of the sex offenders’ register when he appeared in court on Wednesday (March 11).
He was handed a 12-month community order including 10 rehabilitation days, and also ordered to pay a £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
Magistrates warned Muhammed, who receives universal credit, he could face jail if he fails to comply with the order.
