GRIMSBY WOMAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ATTACKS AND COERCIVE CONTROL
Helen Thornton, a 45-year-old woman from Grimsby, has been convicted of making her husband's life a "misery" through a near daily pattern of physical and emotional abuse.The Court heard she repeatedly assaulted her husband, including attacks with a rolling pin and on one occasion stabbing him with the tip of an electric toothbrush.
She was accused of two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behavior.
The trial at Grimsby Crown Court resulted in her conviction.
During sentencing, Judge John Thackray KC stated that she had instilled fear in her husband on at least two occasions from 2016 to the previous year.
The judge emphasized that her actions went beyond the domestic context, involving a breach of trust and causing profound psychological harm.
Her husband, who had been in custody at New Hall Prison near Wakefield, expressed a hope that she would not harm anyone else.
Helen Thornton was sentenced to two years in prison and was subjected to a 10-year restraining order.
She was incarcerated at New Hall Prison and was given these measures to prevent further harm to her husband or others.
