HALIFAX MAN HAROON SADIQ JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE
Twenty men have been sentenced to a combined jail term of over 200 years following an investigation into historical child sexual abuse cases in Calderdale.The court handed down a total of 219 years in sentences to those found guilty of raping and abusing young girls.
The investigation uncovered the sexual exploitation of four girls, aged 12 to 16, by multiple offenders in Calderdale.
Court orders were initially in place during the trial process but have since been lifted.
The inquiry started in 2016, focusing on allegations involving two girls from 2006 to 2009, when they were between 13 and 16 years old.
Court proceedings identified several offenders, including Shahzad Nowaz, Nadeem Nassir, Sajid Adalat, Sohail Zaffer, and Shazad Nazir, with sentences from 7 to 11 years.
Further trials conducted in the subsequent years involved other accused individuals, such as Nadeem Adalat, Asad Mahmood, Mohammed Rizwan Iqbal, Vaseem Adalat, Amir Shaban, Malik Quadeer, Mohammed Ziarab, Imran Raja Yasin, Kamran Amin, Mohammed Akhtar, Saquab Hussain, Haroon Sadiq, Shafiq Ali Rafiq, Sarfraz Rabnawaz, and Craig Mitchell, all of whom received substantial prison periods.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith highlighted the bravery of the victims and the importance of reporting non-recent abuse.
She explained that cases of historic sexual abuse are handled by specially trained officers and urged anyone who was abused as a child to seek assistance, with contact details provided for police and support services.
