MAN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED WOMAN IN BACK ALLEY
A pervert who took advantage of a vulnerable woman and sexually assaulted her as she relieved herself in a back alley has been jailed.Harmandeep Singh trailed his victim into the alley before committing the assault while she was unable to defend herself.
CCTV footage captured Singh with the woman before he ran away from the scene.
The 34-year-old carried out the attack after the woman had spent the night drinking in Consett town centre.
In a statement, the woman told of her ongoing fear, stating she now avoids leaving her home and avoids going into Consett, while also undergoing counselling to cope with her trauma.
Singh, who resides on Newmarket Street in Consett, was convicted of sexual assault by penetration.
Judge Richard Bennett sentenced him to three and a half years in prison for the sexual assault.
