GWYNEDD STALKER JAILED FOR CAUSING DISTRESS AND ISSUING THREATS
A man named Gruffydd Llyr Williams, aged 44 and from Efailnewydd near Pwllheli, has received a prison sentence after being convicted of causing distress through persistent stalking. His conduct involved threats to share explicit photographs of a woman referred to as Victim A, with whom he had a relationship starting in January 2020.
At first, he appeared charming, but his attitude shifted when Victim A indicated her intention to end their relationship amid divorce proceedings.
After their breakup, Williams became threatening, sending her a topless image she had taken earlier in their relationship and emailing her employer, which cast doubt on her professionalism and included accusations about her behaviour.
He also made numerous phone calls believed to have been made by him, contacted a news outlet to publish a story about her, and searched online for ways to tamper with her car's brakes.
Victim A has described feeling 'violated and abused,' and to ensure her safety, she used CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, and a rape alarm, and she has undergone two years of counselling.
Williams admitted to stalking her between July 2022 and February 2023 and also threatened to reveal a private photo of another woman, identified as Victim B.
The court sentenced him to 27 months in prison and imposed a 15-year restraining order preventing him from approaching both women, their employer, and Victim B’s partner.
His defence argued that his health issues, which he claimed amounted to a 'disability hate crime,' contributed to his behaviour.
However, the judge focused on his abusive conduct, especially after his threats and criticism towards Victim A.
Additionally, Williams received a concurrent nine-month sentence for threatening to share an intimate photo of Victim B.
The restraining order issued by the court extends to both victims, their employer, and Victim B’s partner.
