GREGORY TRYL FROM HALIFAX SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a case that has shocked the community of Halifax, Gregory Tryl, a 55-year-old man residing on Hebble Vale Drive, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 11 years after being convicted of serious sexual offences involving a minor.The court proceedings revealed a disturbing history of abuse that dates back to 1998, when the victim was only 13 years old and Tryl was 41.
Tryl pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault, and a jury found him guilty of two separate rapes committed against the same young girl.
As part of his sentencing, he was also ordered to sign the sexual offenders’ register for the rest of his life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes and the ongoing threat he poses to the community.
The offences reportedly occurred during a period when the girl was assisting Tryl with household chores, a detail that highlights the manipulative and predatory nature of his actions.
The court was informed that approximately two years after the alleged assaults, the victim attempted to take her own life, a tragic consequence of the trauma inflicted upon her.
During this difficult period, Tryl also sent her money, purportedly to keep her silent about the abuse, which further exemplifies his attempt to conceal his misconduct.
It was only years later that the victim confided in her husband about the abuse she endured.
The situation escalated when she encountered Tryl again in a bar in 2011, an encounter that prompted her husband to persuade her to come forward and report Tryl’s actions to the authorities.
This brave decision led to the investigation and subsequent trial, during which the victim’s courage was publicly acknowledged by law enforcement officials.
Inspector Derrick Oldham of the Calderdale Safeguarding Unit expressed his support for the sentence, stating, “We welcome the sentence given to Gregory Tryl.
The crimes he committed against this innocent child are of the most serious type.
I’d like to praise the courage of his victim throughout the investigation and trial.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding vulnerable children and the justice system’s role in holding offenders accountable.
