YORK HOTEL WORKER JAILED FOR VIEWING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN
The night manager of a city centre hotel has been jailed for viewing indecent images of children while at work.Gregory Daniel Broadbent-Palmer was always on his iPad during his shift at Monkbar Hotel, according to the prosecution, who claimed he was playing a Simpsons game.
However, a fellow employee suspected his activities and checked the computer, discovering a collection of indecent images, some featuring children as young as five.She reported her concerns to her line manager, prompting the hotel to call the police.
Broadbent-Palmer previously served a 15-month sentence for similar offences at Newcastle Crown Court in 2007, during which he was sacked.
Judge Paul Batty QC stated, “You have not learnt your lesson.
Had it not been for the public spirited action of an employee at the hotel where you worked as a manager, I have no doubt you would have continued this loathsome activity.” He sentenced Broadbent-Palmer to two years in prison, imposed a lifelong sexual harm prevention order restricting his internet use, and placed him on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.
The 40-year-old, of Leyburn House, Del Pyke, The Groves, pleaded guilty to 11 charges of possessing indecent images of children.
The authorities found 78 images and videos, including 31 of the most serious category, some with faces replaced by a woman known to him.
Broadbent-Palmer had researched methods to delete evidence from iCloud and stored the images systematically, hinting at potential distribution, though no evidence of sharing was found.
He actively searched online with terms like “trade children,” indicating a perverted sexual interest in young children.
His solicitor said he shows remorse, self-loathing, and disgust, and appears to be crying out for help.
The court noted a previous case involving him sending an email with a naked woman picture.
