ROCHDALE SEX OFFENDER GREG MCKENDRY ESCAPES JUSTICE AFTER ADMITTING TO SEXUAL ASSAULT ON SCHOOLGIRL
In a case that has shocked the community of Rochdale, Greg Kieran McKendry, aged 29 and residing in Belfield, was brought before Minshull Street Crown Court to face serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving minors. McKendry pleaded guilty to the most severe charge among three he was accused of, which involved sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl by touching her inappropriately.During the court proceedings, the judge carefully considered whether it was in the public interest to pursue the remaining two charges, which, although related to other victims, were deemed less serious. The judge concluded that pursuing these additional charges might not significantly alter the overall sentence if McKendry were convicted on all counts. As a result, the evidence and statements from the other two victims—one a nine-year-old girl and the other an older girl—were allowed to 'lie on file,' meaning they would not be formally prosecuted at this time.
The court was informed that the victim McKendry admitted to assaulting was only 14 years old at the time of the incident, which involved sexual touching. The other two victims, who did not receive justice through prosecution, included a nine-year-old girl and another girl who was several years older. The allegations concerning the older girl involved conversations of a sexually explicit nature, where McKendry asked if she was a virgin and whether she had engaged in any sexual activity before.
It was also revealed that McKendry had a prior conviction from approximately ten years ago for sexual offences involving a different underage girl, highlighting a troubling pattern of behavior.
Following his guilty plea, the court imposed a three-year sexual harm prevention order on McKendry. Additionally, he was ordered to re-register as a sex offender and was explicitly instructed not to have any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16. These measures are intended to protect minors and prevent further offenses, but questions remain about whether justice has been fully served in this case.
