MONTROSE MAN NARROWLY AVOIDS JAIL AFTER DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A serial wife-beater has narrowly escaped jail after his latest attack on his partner.Sheriff Gregor Murray at Forfar warned Graham Spink, age 47, that any further issues would result in him being sent straight to prison after another alcohol-fueled assault which has been a recurring issue over the past five years.
The court heard Spink, who lives in Renny Crescent and works as an oil industry assembly technician, pleaded guilty to threatening and attacking his wife on April 22, including slapping her on the head and causing injury.
Defence attorney Nick Markowski stated that the couple had been together for six years and married for two, and the incident involved an argument where he slapped her while drinking at home.
The police responded to shouting, and letters from Spink’s employer and wife were presented to the court, with his wife expressing her desire to continue the relationship, even stating she would also face jail if he received a sentence.
The court noted Spink's previous convictions, including fines in 2013, a community order, and unpaid work after breaching bail.
Sheriff Murray emphasized that Spink had not learned from past offenses, having committed three in five years, two within a single year.
The judge warned that if there were any future problems, Spink would face jail without options.
Consequently, Spink was sentenced to an 18-month Community Payback Order, including 160 hours of unpaid work, participation in a domestic offender program, and alcohol treatment.
