GREENOCK MAN JAILED FOR VICIOUS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND STREET ASSAULT
Social workers have described a man, Graham Falconer, aged 35, who carried out a violent street assault on his partner while intoxicated, as having 'respect' for her.During the incident, Falconer encircled the woman’s neck with both hands until she screamed, attracting the attention of residents in a nearby house.
The attack took place around 6 pm and was initiated after Falconer was released early from prison for carrying a knife.
Despite a man intervening to prevent Falconer from punching his partner, the violence persisted as he dragged her towards their residence on Murdieston Street and forced her inside.
When police responded, they found Falconer shouting at her over lost house keys, then turning his anger on officers by threatening to 'smash' them and spitting on one of their legs.
Falconer also insulted one officer with the term 'gay boy' and threatened to spit in a PC’s face.
These incidents occurred on August 14.
His legal representative stated that Falconer typically maintains a respectful relationship with his partner when sober, and that he had successfully overcome a heroin addiction, although his alcohol consumption was excessive at the time.
Sheriff Andrew McIntyre sentenced Falconer to serve the remaining 117 days of his previous sentence plus an additional six months imprisonment.
The sheriff emphasized Falconer’s history of prior convictions for violence and domestic abuse and described the nature of this offence as 'absolutely awful,' underlining the seriousness of his misconduct.
