FORMER POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR CAUSING HIS WIFE'S DEATH IN LORRY ACCIDENT
A man formerly employed as a police officer has been sentenced to a five-year prison term following the death of his wife, Josephine Lamb, who was tragically killed when she was run over by his lorry outside their residence at Quarry Park Stables on Wardley Lane, Gateshead, in July 2009.Graeme Lamb, aged 48, appeared before Newcastle Crown Court where he explained that he hoped his wife would move aside as he was trying to leave.
It was also disclosed that he had consumed half a bottle of Bacardi prior to operating his truck.
Throughout the trial, he was found guilty of causing death through dangerous driving.
Evidence revealed that the couple, living in a caravan at their stable yard, had engaged in several drunken disputes and occasionally violent altercations in the months leading up to her death.
Lamb testified that he called emergency services immediately after the accident.
The court also considered that Mrs Lamb was possessive and that jealousy, notably concerning Lamb's friendship with employee Jacqui Brunton, contributed to escalating tensions.
Judge John Milford highlighted that shortly after the incident, Lamb was living with Brunton even with Mrs Lamb's suspicions.
Initially, Lamb faced charges of manslaughter, but during the proceedings, this was altered to causing death by dangerous driving.
