KILMARNOCK SEX OFFENDER GRAEME GOODWIN FOUND WITH HUNDREDS OF CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES
In December 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving Graeme Goodwin, a 27-year-old man from Kilmarnock, who was placed on the sex offenders’ register after police uncovered a significant collection of child sexual abuse images on his mobile device.Police executed a search warrant at Goodwin’s residence in Balfour Court, Kilmarnock, on April 12.
At the time, Goodwin was not present, but he returned shortly after the officers arrived.
During the initial analysis of his mobile phone, authorities discovered a troubling cache of indecent images of children, which had been downloaded onto the device over a period spanning from August 2, 2018, up until the day of the search.
The investigation revealed a total of 186 indecent images, categorized by severity: 31 images classified as Category A, indicating the most severe content; 33 images as Category B; and 122 images as Category C.
In addition to the images, police recovered several videos from the phone, including seven classified as Category A and one as Category C, further highlighting the disturbing nature of the material found.
The fiscal depute addressed Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, stating, “These images and movies had been downloaded on to the phone between August 2, 2018, and the day of the search warrant.” During police interviews, Goodwin, a former delivery driver, was notably cooperative and candid.
He admitted to possessing the indecent images and acknowledged that he had permitted the images to be taken by downloading them onto his phone.
His solicitor informed the court that Goodwin had no prior convictions and no unresolved legal issues.
The defense also mentioned that he had been employed until the matter came to light, although his employer found it difficult to retain him after the allegations surfaced.
Judge Alastair Watson decided to defer sentencing to allow for the preparation of background reports.
He warned Goodwin that, given the serious nature of his guilty plea, he would be subject to the notification requirements of the sex offenders’ register.
The court scheduled his sentencing for the following month, emphasizing the gravity of the charges and the potential consequences for Goodwin’s future.
