OFFENDER GLEN ROE SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR GUN-POINT RAPE IN WORKSOP
A man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being convicted of a serious sexual assault involving a firearm in Worksop. The 45-year-old Glen Roe, who has no fixed address, forcibly entered a residence through a ground-floor window around 4 am on August 2, 2018.
During the attacked, Roe pointed an imitation handgun at the victim’s head and expressed intentions to kill both her and himself after the assault.
He later claimed he would not harm her but intended to engage in a police shootout, although he left the scene without firing the weapon.
The victim was extremely distressed and believed the firearm was real, but police investigations confirmed it was merely an imitation.
Roe was arrested on August 5, 2018, and faced multiple charges, including two counts of rape, sexual assault, threats to kill, and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear.
He denied the allegations but was found guilty of all charges on February 1, 2019, after a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
He received a sentence of 16 years on March 11, 2019.
Detective Constable Janet Percival, who led the investigation, stated, “I’m very pleased with today’s sentence.
This was an extremely distressing attack for the victim and she has shown a great deal of bravery throughout this trial.
Today’s sentencing reflects the seriousness of Roe’s crimes and I hope it can bring some comfort to the victim.”
