GHULAN MOHAMMED SENTENCED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE IN BURTON AND LEICESTER
A man identified as Ghulan Mohammed has been sentenced to prison after a harrowing series of events that culminated in an attempted sexual assault in Leicester.The incident, which took place after Mohammed had been driving around Leicester city in search of a sex worker, ended with him targeting a young woman in a terrifying ordeal that has left a lasting impact.
According to court records, Mohammed, aged 36 and residing on Princess Street in Burton upon Trent, approached the woman after she asked whether he was a taxi driver.
He managed to persuade her to get into his vehicle, and from there, the situation quickly escalated.
The court heard that Mohammed drove the woman to secluded areas within Leicester, where he subjected her to sexual assault and attempted to rape her.
The victim, who had been drinking that evening, was reportedly in a vulnerable state when she entered his car.
Following the assault, Mohammed returned with the woman to Leicester’s city centre.
The victim attempted to escape at a petrol station, but Mohammed continued to pursue her.
He then took her to a hotel car park, where he again tried to persuade her to accompany him to a room.
The ordeal was eventually brought to an end when her friends located her through a tracking app on her phone.
When they found her, she was muddy, bruised, and visibly distressed.
Witnesses also saw Mohammed without his trousers, further confirming the severity of the incident.
The case was brought before Leicester Crown Court, where a week-long trial concluded with Mohammed being found guilty of multiple charges.
These included one count of attempted rape, four counts of sexual touching, one count of theft, and four counts of fraud by false representation.
The court sentenced him to a total of seven years and three months in prison on Friday at Northampton Crown Court.
Following the sentencing, Maimuna Bappa, representing the Crown Prosecution Service, described Mohammed’s actions as a “terrifying ordeal” for the victim.
She emphasized that the victim had little memory of the events, aside from her resistance to Mohammed’s sexual advances.
Bappa praised her for her courage in resisting the attack and assisting with the investigation, highlighting the danger Mohammed posed as a sexual predator.
She also noted that the victim’s resilience and cooperation were instrumental in securing the conviction, underscoring the importance of her bravery in the face of such a traumatic experience.
