ELLESMERE PORT SEX OFFENDER BREACHED COURT ORDER 'BECAUSE HE FORGOT'
A person convicted of a sexual offense, residing in Ellesmere Port, has received a fine after failing to adhere to his court-mandated obligation to notify police annually.Georgie Connolly, age 22, of St Andrews Road, admitted to breaking the court order established in March 2018 when he was still a minor.
In April 2018, he was found guilty of multiple charges involving possession of images related to child sexual abuse and extreme pornography.
Prosecutor Samuel Barker informed the court that on Friday, April 15, officers from Cheshire Police were alerted that Connolly had not completed his required yearly notification.
The deadline for this was April 7 each year.
Howard Jones, representing Connolly, pointed out to the magistrates that his client’s offenses are several years old and that he has followed the notification rule for the past seven years.
He explained that a family issue was preoccupying his client, and due to having ADHD, Connolly mistakenly thought his notification was due in May rather than April.
The magistrate, Alison Berry, ordered Connolly to pay an £80 penalty for the violation, along with a £32 surcharge and £85 in legal costs.
She emphasized the importance of the notification system by stating, “There is a reason you have to notify police, and it is serious if you don’t.
Make a note of that date in advance for next year so you don’t miss it.” Connolly’s fine will be deducted from his benefits.
