GALASHIELS MAN PLACED ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER FOR 10 YEARS FOLLOWING CONVICTION
A GALASHIELS man has had his name placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years after being convicted of three counts intentionally sending sexual communications to other people without their consent.One of the offences involved a youngster under 18 years of age.
Sixty-one-year-old George Tunnicliffe had denied the offences but was found guilty following a four-day jury trial at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
The jury also convicted him on a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.
But Tunnicliffe was found not guilty of charges of possessing a bladed article and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Another charge of threatening or abusive behaviour was found not proven by the jury.
Tunnicliffe was sentenced to a total of nine months on each of the four charges – to run concurrently – and back-dated to August 2022 when he was first remanded in connection with the case which means he has now been released from custody.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said Tunnicliffe would be made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act for 10 years.
