GEORGE JOINSON FROM NANTWICH SENTENCED FOR GROOMING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL ON MUSIC WEBSITE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Nantwich, a local man named George Alexandra Joinson, aged 56, has been convicted and sentenced for engaging in inappropriate and illegal activities involving a minor. Joinson, residing at Barony Court in Nantwich, pleaded guilty during an earlier court hearing to charges of sexual activity with a child, as well as 16 counts of producing indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a young girl.

The sentencing took place at Chester Crown Court on Friday, February 17, where Judge handed down a sentence of three years and four months in prison. Additionally, an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order was imposed, restricting his activities and contact with minors. Joinson will also be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.

The case came to light after police investigations were initiated following a report from a mother in Derbyshire. She reported her 13-year-old daughter had gone missing in April 2011. During the investigation, authorities discovered an old mobile phone at the girl’s residence, which revealed that she had been in regular contact with Joinson. Notably, a piece of paper with Joinson’s address was found behind the phone’s battery, indicating a deliberate attempt to keep his contact details accessible.

Further examination of the phone uncovered photographs of Joinson, which added to the evidence against him. Police officers from Nantwich conducted a search of his home in Barony Court but found that the teenager was not present at the time. Joinson denied ever meeting the girl in person, claiming that their interactions had been limited to text messaging only.

Subsequently, police arrested Joinson on suspicion of grooming and questioned him about the whereabouts of the missing girl. During this period, the girl returned home and confessed to having visited Joinson on two separate occasions. She also admitted to engaging in unprotected sexual activity with him, which further implicated Joinson in the case.

Following her confession, authorities arrested Joinson once more and conducted a thorough search of his residence. During this search, officers seized DVDs and computers for further examination. The investigation revealed that the girl had initially contacted Joinson through a music sharing website called Bearshare, which requires users to be at least 14 years old to join. The girl disclosed that she had informed Joinson she was only 13, and she was aware of his age from his online profile.

DC Paul Carslake emphasized the importance of parental awareness and online safety, stating, “It emerged that the victim had started chatting with Joinson on a music sharing website called Bearshare, which members have to be 14 to join. She stated that she told him she was actually 13. From his online profile she was aware of his age. This highlights how imperative it is that parents are aware of the sites their children are accessing and who they are communicating with.”

He further added, “The internet is an amazing tool that a lot of families have access to, but it also has its dangers. There are a number of websites that provide information and tools to protect children online and I would strongly advise all parents to utilise these when educating their children about how to stay safe.”
