GEORGE INGLEDEW BURTON PAEDOPHILE ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE ONLINE SEXUAL OFFENSES

In November 2017, a case involving George Ingledew, a resident of Burton, has sparked outrage among national vigilante groups and local authorities alike.

The incident centers around Ingledew, who was involved in online activities targeting underage girls, and the subsequent legal proceedings that have left many feeling the punishment was insufficient.

Keeping Kids Safe, a prominent organization dedicated to combating online child exploitation, arranged a sting operation in which they set up a meeting with Ingledew.

The group believed they were communicating with an underage girl, but in reality, they had engaged with decoys specifically placed to catch individuals like Ingledew.

The operation was broadcast live on the group's Facebook page, drawing thousands of viewers and exposing Ingledew's intentions.

Despite the public exposure and the serious nature of his offenses, Staffordshire Police have decided not to release Ingledew’s mugshot.

The police cited their policy that photographs of offenders are only made public if the individual receives a minimum sentence of two years in prison.

Ingledew, aged 59 and residing on Princess Street in Burton, had previously admitted to attempting to cause a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual activity in April of that year.

He also pleaded guilty to three additional charges related to attempting to engage in sexual communications with underage girls via the internet, with incidents occurring in April and July of 2017.

The court proceedings took place at Stafford Crown Court, where Ingledew was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.

Additionally, he was ordered to participate in a rehabilitation program and will be required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years.

The sentencing has been met with widespread criticism from advocacy groups and the public, who argue that the punishment does not reflect the severity of his crimes.

The case has also highlighted the ongoing debate over the transparency of law enforcement in releasing images of convicted offenders.

Ingledew’s case is not isolated.

The vigilante group has previously secured convictions for other offenders in Burton.

For instance, Martin Rhodes, aged 45 from Wyggeston Street, was sentenced to four years in prison after admitting to multiple charges, including causing a child to watch a sexual act, grooming, attempting to incite a sexual act from a girl under 13, and possessing cannabis.

Another individual, Kevin Collins, aged 44 from Empire Road in Winshill, was also caught by the group.

Collins admitted to three counts of sexual communication with underage girls and received a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

These cases underscore the ongoing efforts by vigilante groups to hold offenders accountable, even as critics question the adequacy of the legal penalties imposed.
