GEORGE DAVID OF WESTON-SUPER-MARE SENTENCED FOR KIDNAPPING AND RAPE IN WESTON-SUPER-MARE
In August 2018, a disturbing case involving a young girl from Weston-super-Mare culminated in the sentencing of Romanian national George David for a series of heinous crimes, including kidnapping, rape, voyeurism, and public indecency.The incident that led to his conviction took place on November 8, 2017, and has left a lasting impact on the victim, who is a young girl unable to be named for legal reasons.
According to court proceedings held at Bristol Crown Court, the girl, who was just 11 years old at the time, recounted her terrifying experience during a personal impact statement read aloud by prosecutor James Ward.
She described walking home from school when she noticed a man wearing a cap, carrying two shopping bags.
She initially thought he might have taken a wrong turn, but her perception changed rapidly.
As she approached, she heard the man stop and turn around.
Suddenly, he grabbed her by the mouth, an act that caused her to struggle fiercely to free herself.
Despite her efforts and screams, he pushed her against a railing, then flipped her over a nearby fence.
During this assault, she was covered in cuts and was pushed towards some bushes, with the attacker attempting to silence her again by covering her mouth and pinching her nose, seemingly trying to prevent her from breathing.
The young girl vividly recalled the attacker’s hands smelling of socks and aftershave, and she described the pain from her injuries.
She told her mother about the attack, describing herself as covered in dirt and distressed.
Her account highlighted the terrifying nature of the assault and the physical and emotional trauma she endured.
George David, who resided on Saville Road in Weston-super-Mare, was found guilty of multiple charges during an hour-and-a-half-long court hearing.
The court also revealed that just six days prior to the kidnapping, on November 2, David was caught on CCTV at Weston-super-Mare train station engaging in inappropriate behavior.
The footage showed him fiddling with his genitals for a significant period, an act that was captured after reports of a man spying on women in the station’s ladies’ toilet.
David had previously admitted to spying on women in the station’s cubicles on October 19, October 21, and November 2.
The CCTV evidence, along with the victim’s testimony, painted a disturbing picture of his pattern of predatory behavior.
In addition to the kidnapping and voyeurism charges, David was also convicted of raping a woman in May of the previous year.
Police had discovered footage of this assault on his mobile phone, which played a crucial role in establishing his guilt.
Judge Michael Longman sentenced George David to a total of seven years and four months in prison.
The sentence requires him to serve half of that time before being eligible for release.
Furthermore, he is mandated to register as a sex offender for the next 11 years.
The judge also ordered two other charges to remain on file, indicating ongoing legal considerations related to his conduct.
Throughout the proceedings, David was assisted by a Spanish translator, emphasizing the international aspect of his case.
His conviction and sentencing mark a significant step in addressing the series of crimes committed in Weston-super-Mare, highlighting the importance of justice for victims of such traumatic incidents.
