KILMARNOCK MAN SENTENCED FOR COLD-BLOODED WIFE MURDER
A KILMARNOCK man has been convicted of murdering his wife, Sharlene, whom he had married for the second time just seven months prior. The jury at the High Court in Glasgow took only three hours to unanimously find 53-year-old George Clark guilty of killing his wife by stabbing her through the heart.
Clark murdered Sharlene by stabbing her three times in the chest and once in the neck, a day after sending a chilling text message stating he planned to kill her.
When paramedics arrived, Clark was found with blood all over his hands, while Sharlene was dead on the living room floor.
Clark dialed 999 and told the operator, “I've just stabbed my wife.
Would you please get an ambulance.
She's not breathing, hurry up.” During the trial, it emerged that Clark had previous convictions for assault, breach of the peace, and road traffic offenses.
The judge sentenced him to life imprisonment, stating, “There is only one sentence I can impose and that is life imprisonment.” Clark's actions were influenced by jealousy and controlling behavior, especially regarding Sharlene's friendships and her relationship with her former husband Helen Clark.
Clark claimed he acted in self-defense after Sharlene attacked him with a kitchen knife, but the jury rejected this defense and convicted him of murder.
The court heard that Clark had a history of controlling and jealous tendencies and resented Sharlene’s efforts to spend time with others.
Sharlene was a mother of four and a grandmother.
She had recently tried to resolve issues with Clark, who was also involved with his ex-wife Helen Clark.
The events culminated in her tragic death at their home on October 12 of the previous year.
Clark, who smiled as he was led away to the cells, is set to be sentenced next month, where he will learn his prison term before eligibility for parole.
