EX-POLICE OFFICER CONVICTED OF OBSESSIVE STALKING AND ASSAULTING WIFE AND HER LOVER
A man named Gavin Harper has been convicted of stalking his wife who he caught having sex with a married police inspector in a Screwfix car park.Harper, 45, confronted Stephanie Glynn, 40, after she had driven to meet Andrew McLullich of Merseyside Police.
The court heard Harper engaged in obsessive, intrusive, and unwanted behaviour towards Ms Glynn, including spying on her, secretly bugging her car, listening into her conversations, tracking her whereabouts, and taking her phone without permission.
The jury found Harper guilty by majority decision of aggravated stalking, which caused Ms Glynn serious alarm or distress, during December 2020 to February 2021.
The Crown stated Harper, a former police officer, could not accept their marriage breakup and became obsessed with catching her in the act.
He finally did so on 16 February 2021.
Harper also followed her using a tracker placed on her car.
The court noted that Harper met Ms Glynn while they both worked at Merseyside Police and they were in a six-year relationship before marrying in 2018.
Ms Glynn left the family home in December 2020 after growing close to her 'work mentor' Mr McLullich.
The prosecution alleged Harper couldn't accept the divorce and behaved obsessively, which left Ms Glynn anxiously looking over her shoulder, changing her routes, and seeking counselling.
The Crown also alleged Harper attacked Mr McLullich when he tried to prevent Harper from retrieving a tracker from beneath Ms Glynn's car, striking him with a torch.
Harper denied causing injuries with the torch and claimed he only wanted proof of the affair, indicating Mr McLullich was the aggressor and that he struck him in self-defence.
Harper faces a prison sentence, and a sentencing date has not been set.
The case is being considered for a potential re-trial on the unlawful wounding charge, with further court proceedings scheduled for 2 April.
