MERSEYSIDE MAN CAUGHT WITH EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY JAILED FOR PLANNING EXPLOSIVES AND HOLDING EXTREMIST VIEWS

A man with extreme right wing views was found with 'step-by-step instructions on how to make home explosives' and a banned 'push dagger'.

A man identified as Scott Mason, aged 36, from Rainhill in Merseyside, was sentenced to three years after pleading guilty to a terrorism offence.

He is reported by police to hold views that are racist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic.

Mason was first brought to the attention of authorities following a report of a domestic assault in October 2021, which led to his arrest by Cheshire Constabulary.

An investigation conducted by the Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) team uncovered a document on his phone containing detailed instructions for making explosives, alongside extreme pornographic images.

Phone records also revealed messages suggesting Mason attempted to intimidate witnesses of the initial domestic assault.

The court was informed that he was subsequently arrested under the Terrorism Act on October 15, 2021, after authorities executed a search warrant at his home.

During the search, officers seized a prohibited 'push dagger'.

Mason faced multiple charges, including possession of information likely to be useful to a terrorist, possession of extreme pornography, witness intimidation, and possession of an offensive weapon.

He admitted guilt to the terrorism offence in November 2021, and later pleaded guilty to the weapons offence in January 2022, receiving a sentence of three months at the magistrates' court.

He then pleaded guilty to the remaining charges in April, leading to his current sentence.

His Honour Judge Alan Conrad QC sentenced Mason to three years this week, noting he would have faced four and a half years had he not pleaded guilty early.

Detective Superintendent William Chatterton from CTPNW remarked that the investigation was thorough and has resulted in Mason facing significant prison time, reaffirming the authorities’ commitment to protect society from individuals posing risks.

He encouraged the community to report any extremist views through the provided channels.
