GARY WOODWARD FROM KIRKBY-IN-ASHFIELD SPARED JAIL AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY DISCOVERY
In June 2017, a case involving a retired plumbing engineer from Kirkby-in-Ashfield drew significant attention in the local community and beyond.Gary Woodward, aged 62 and residing on Lowmoor Road, faced serious allegations related to the possession and creation of indecent images of children.
The charges stemmed from an investigation that uncovered a disturbing collection of digital material stored on a computer disk.
During proceedings at Nottingham Crown Court, Woodward pleaded guilty to three separate counts of producing indecent images of children.
These images spanned all three recognized categories, ranging from the least to the most severe forms of such material.
The court was informed that the total number of images and videos found on his device amounted to approximately 3,700, a figure that underscored the extent of the material involved.
In addition to the charges related to indecent images, Woodward also admitted to possessing prohibited images of a child, along with an extreme pornographic image.
These admissions highlighted the severity of the offenses and the disturbing nature of the content involved.
Despite the gravity of the charges, Recorder Nicholas Syfret QC delivered a sentence that reflected a combination of punishment and rehabilitation.
Woodward was sentenced to 16 months in prison, but this term was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses within that period.
Furthermore, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future activities and prevent any potential harm.
As part of the court's conditions, Woodward was also ordered to complete 25 days of a rehabilitation activity requirement through probation services.
This measure aimed to address underlying issues and reduce the risk of reoffending, emphasizing the importance of both punishment and reform in cases involving sexual offenses against children.
