COUPLE JAILED AFTER FORCING EX-PARTNER TO LIVE IN A GARDEN SHED
A couple have been jailed after an ex-partner was forced to live in appalling conditions in a garden shed.
Marsden, 55, was jailed for 16 months after pleading guilty to controlling or coercive behavior in a family relationship.
Her partner, Gary Cooper, 53, was jailed for 15 months for encouraging or assisting the offence.
Mr Chapman was moved into a shed, living in conditions where he was not allowed to use basic facilities and was subjected to abuse, belittlement, and humiliation, including being physically assaulted by Cooper.
He was also forced to defecate in a bucket and urinate in bottles, living in an uninsulated shed with a small heater, and out-of-date food.
The judge imposed a restraining order and postponed a proceeds of crime investigation, with neighbours rescuing Mr Chapman.
Marsden moved from Alexander Road to Marlborough Road, and Mr Chapman began claiming benefits after his money ran out.
The court heard he was threatened and had no choice but to accept the conditions, which included asking permission for basic needs and not being allowed to sit on furniture or watch TV in front of children.
Cooper had assaulted Mr Chapman on multiple occasions, including grabbing him around the throat and attempting to drag him through a shed window.
