NOTTINGHAMSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR SAVAGE GIRLFRIEND’S MURDER
Gary Spalding, a resident of Nottinghamshire, was found guilty of the murder of his girlfriend, Denise Skilbeck, and received a life sentence. The court was informed that Spalding, who struggled with alcohol addiction, subjected Ms.
Skilbeck to a violent and frenzied assault in her bedroom at their shared flat, leading to her death from head injuries.
During the sentencing hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Judge John Milmo QC emphasized that Spalding would serve at least 20 years in prison and condemned his conduct, highlighting that he did nothing to assist her and left her unattended while she was near death or already deceased.
It was revealed that Spalding had previously confessed to the murder, which resulted in his sentence being reduced from 23 to 20 years due to his guilty plea.
Ms.
Skilbeck's family described her as a compassionate individual taken away by a callous act of violence.
Detective Chief Inspector Brendan O'Shea commented that the lengthy sentence would serve to protect the community, stating that the victim had trusted Spalding and was vulnerable.
Originally from Oxfordshire, Ms.
Skilbeck moved to Nottinghamshire in 2007, where she worked as an employment advisor.
She had also been in contact with Nottinghamshire Police regarding domestic incidents, an investigation overseen by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Authorities continue to examine previous interactions between police and Ms.
Skilbeck prior to her death.
