CORBY PAEDOPHILE GARY NORMAN SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING YOUNG GIRL
In August 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Gary Norman, a resident of Corby, who was convicted of sending explicit messages and images to a young girl. The incident, which took place in 2019, revealed a pattern of predatory behavior that culminated in his arrest and subsequent sentencing.Gary Norman, aged 29 and residing on Shakespeare Way in Corby, engaged in a series of inappropriate communications with a minor via social media platforms. During these exchanges, he asked the girl whether she had performed a sexual act, demonstrating a clear intent to exploit her. Norman also sent her an unsolicited explicit image of himself, further crossing boundaries of decency and legality. In an attempt to avoid detection, the girl responded by sending a stock image of a topless woman sourced from the internet, rather than an actual photograph of herself. This act of defiance and self-protection ultimately contributed to Norman's arrest.
Following his apprehension, Norman was taken into custody and interviewed by police. During the interview, he admitted to the allegations, acknowledging his actions and understanding that they were wrong. Prosecutor Robert Bryan emphasized the gravity of the case, stating, “He accepted knowing what he did was wrong.” Norman faced charges of causing or inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.
At the sentencing hearing held at Northampton Crown Court, Norman’s legal representative, Liam Muir, argued for a suspended sentence combined with rehabilitative measures, asserting that such an approach would serve to “nip it in the bud now.” However, the presiding judge, His Honour Judge Mayo, deemed the offences to be of a serious nature, warranting immediate custody. Consequently, Norman was sentenced to three years in prison. He will serve half of this term behind bars, with the remainder on licence, subject to supervision and restrictions.
Furthermore, Norman will be placed on the sex offender register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities. He will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which will restrict his contact with young girls and prevent any further potential exploitation. This case underscores the importance of vigilance and swift legal action in protecting vulnerable minors from predatory individuals within the community of Corby.
