THUG BEATS 5 PUPPIES TO DEATH BUT SEEMS TO GET OFF LIGHT
A VICIOUS teenager who battered five puppies to death escaped a jail sentence yesterday.Gary Monks smashed the helpless dogs off a wall because they were annoying him.
At Greenock Sheriff Court yesterday the 17-year-old, who admitted the cruelty charge, was put on probation and given 100 hours community service.
The leniency of the sentence incensed animal protection groups last night.
And Sheriff Rajni Swanney came under fire for not imposing an order preventing him from owning pets in the future.
An SSPCA spokesman said: "We're very disappointed.
Normally in cases like this we're looking for a life ban at the very least and maybe even a prison sentence.
"Anyone who loves animals will be appalled.
"This was a totally unprovoked attack and who's to say he won't do the same again.
"Certainly there's nothing to stop him going out and getting another dog." Shocked police found the dead puppies when they were called to a disturbance at Monks' home in Greenock in January.
Senior Inspector John McAvoy said: "It was a desperate sight.
There were five tiny bodies just lying there.
"You just can't imagine how anyone can do this sort of thing." Mr.
McAvoy rescued a sixth pup and the dogs' mother from the home.
