GARY FOWLER FROM RUNCORN SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES AGAINST YOUNG GIRLS

In December 2015, a man from Runcorn, identified as Gary Fowler, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of a series of serious sexual offences committed against two young girls. Fowler, aged 57 and residing in The Uplands, Palacefields area of Runcorn, was found guilty by Warrington Crown Court of a total of 23 separate charges related to historic abuse cases that spanned several years.

The victims, both under the age of 13 when the abuse began in 1998, demonstrated remarkable bravery by coming forward to report the crimes. Their courage was praised by detectives, who acknowledged the profound and lasting impact these offences have had on their lives. The court proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse, including four counts of rape, one of attempted rape, and the rape of a child under 13.

In addition to these grave charges, Fowler was convicted of seven counts of indecent assault, four counts of sexual activity with a minor, two counts of indecent activity with a child, and four other sexual offences involving children. The extensive nature of the allegations underscored the severity of Fowler’s actions and the need for justice.

The sentencing took place at Liverpool Crown Court on a recent Monday, where the judge imposed a 17-year prison term on Fowler. Detective Constable Emma Myers commented on the case, stating, “Fowler’s behaviour was despicable and will affect his victims for the rest of their lives. Both of them have been incredibly brave throughout this trial. I would like to thank them both for their courage and standing up to their attacker and helping to bring him to justice. I hope that the guilty verdict and sentencing brings about a degree of closure for both of the victims.”

Cheshire Police emphasized their commitment to addressing all allegations of sexual offences, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes occurred. They reassured the public and victims alike that coming forward is encouraged and that support is available. Detective Myers added, “We want to reassure victims that we are committed to tackling this type of crime and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.”
