TEESSIDE SEX OFFENDER WILL HAVE TO WAIT TO BE SENTENCED
A convicted sex offender will have to wait to be sentenced to give him the opportunity to secure legal representation.Gary Dawson admitted carrying a series of indecent assaults in the 80s when he was a young man himself.
The 58-year-old was due to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court but the judge told the defendant that he would require legal representation due to the serious and complex nature of his offending.
Recorder Simon Healey KC adjourned the hearing until next month to allow time for the charges to be clarified and for the defendant to submit his mitigation.
Dawson, who represented himself in court, urged the judge to sentence him immediately as he just wanted it over and done with.
He said: “I’m guilty and deserve whatever sentence you are going to give.
Dawson, of no fixed abode but formerly from the Middlesbrough area, pleaded guilty to six charges of indecent assault dating back to the mid-80s on a child under the age of 14.
He was remanded in custody until he is sentenced on a date to be fixed.
