BOLTON MAN BANNED FROM CONTACTING WOMEN HE HARASSED
Gary Davies, aged 43 and from Bolton, appeared before Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Monday, 18 August, following a breach of his licence conditions linked to a previous conviction. The court was told that Davies has a documented history of domestic abuse offences against women dating back to 2013.
He began displaying controlling behaviour just weeks into a new relationship with a woman based in Bury.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that the victim initially raised concerns via an online report, expressing unease about Davies' conduct following their first disagreement.
She also noted the relationship had progressed unusually fast.
An officer had been scheduled to visit the woman to record a formal statement when she made a 999 call, reporting that Davies was enraged and on his way to her home.
Fortunately, the woman managed to reach a friend’s house and remain safe before Davies arrived.
Witnesses later reported seeing him pounding on her flat door and shouting for her to let him in.
When officers spoke to the victim, she provided evidence of persistent harassment—frequent text messages, numerous phone calls, and indications he had been monitoring her movements.
These concerns prompted her to change the locks and install a Ring doorbell at her property.
Davies had also enrolled at the same gym as the victim—despite its distance from his own residence—and had timed his visits to align with hers.
He further misled her about his identity, giving false details regarding his name and date of birth.
He was eventually apprehended on 13 August at Dover Docks in Kent, after ANPR cameras detected his vehicle and officers identified him as a wanted individual.
He was reportedly attempting to leave the country.
Although Davies was not criminally charged for his behaviour in this specific relationship, GMP presented sufficient evidence to obtain an indefinite Domestic Abuse Protection Order (DAPO), which prohibits any contact with the victim.
In addition to the DAPO, Davies was recalled to prison and will remain in custody until July next year.
Detective Superintendent Jen Tattersall, GMP’s lead for domestic abuse, said: “I’m incredibly proud of the work of our officers and staff to secure this indefinite DAPO, recognising Davies’ history of abusive behaviour and the threat he poses to women.
I hope this order allows the victim to move on without fear of further harm.
“I’m also confident that this victim’s bravery in coming forward when she did, and the investigation which followed, has prevented Davies’ behaviour from escalating and her being subjected to further abuse.”
